Meet our delivery and tap line handy man Andy Schuler (or Michael, or Mike, or Andrew?) He is not only experienced in setting up kegs and taps for different locations, but he can shake up a mean cocktail and knows his bourbon. Read the interview to get a little more acquainted with Andy!
What is your job/position at RCBC? What does it entail?
I do distribution, draft cleaning locally and at our taprooms.
What are some challenges you face in your position?
There never seems to be enough hours in the day. Sometimes a wrench can get thrown into coordinations and plans with other businesses when I am out for cleanings or deliveries, but it is all always fixable.
How long have you been with the company?
I have been with the company since December 2017.
What were you doing before you started working at RCBC?
I bartended at local bars making cocktails.
What was your favorite cocktail to make?
I always enjoyed making aviations; they are straightforward and impressive looking.
What interested you in working for the company?
I wanted to try something new. I was getting burnt out on the bartending schedule and was looking for a more “normal” work schedule. But since working here I have had the opportunity to do a variety of different things and wear different hats.
Where did you grow up?
I am a local, raised in Humboldt.
What is your favorite RCBC beer?
The Special Bitter; it is my preferred post work beer, it is an easy drinking British pub beer.
If you were an RCBC beer, which one would you be and why?
The Bourbon Barrel Stout; I have a fondness of bourbon and old things.
What is your favorite beer that is not RCBC?
2016 Kriek from Cascades Brewing up in Portland, OR.
What RCBC apparel do you find yourself wearing the most?
I typically wear the t-shirts because they are easy to work in.
What do you enjoy doing when you are not at work?
Now that it is warmer I go fishing for perch, and later in the summer coastal cutthroat trout. Since I was born and raised in Humboldt, it’s a really nice way to interact with places that are around here and is a new way to interact with the local nature.
What is(are) your favorite thing(s) to listen to while you are delivering beers/cleaning beer lines?
I listen to a lot of podcasts. I never used to really listen to them, but now that I have more time on the road I listen to podcasts like National Security Base and International Relations. I also listen to quite a bit of NPR and other radio.
What is the most memorable place you have visited?
South France; I lived there for six months for school (specifically for language), and I have been back for a visit since then.
If you could eat one food for life, what would that be?
Cheese… especially fresh mozzarella.
What is something that most people do not know about you?
That my first name is Michael. It really throws people off. In one semester of school, I was called four different names in four different classes: Mike, Michael, Andy, and Andrew.
What isn’t real, but you desperately wish it was?
Definitely casual space travel.
What do you enjoy most about working for RCBC?
Everyone I work with. I don’t work with people directly, but everyone is always enjoyable. And even though we have a small production team, everybody is willing to help out and step in when needed.
